Lockfast Security Ltd has come a long way since its humble beginnings in a shoe shop on George Street, Aberdeen.

Back in 1978, Malcolm launched what was then Spence’s, repairing shoes with care and craftsmanship. Just two years later, in 1980, he expanded into key cutting and shoe repairs at The Heel & Key Bar inside the Norco superstore on Berryden Road.

In 1986, a young Mark joined the team as the Saturday boy sweeping floors, stocking key boards, and slowly learning the ropes of key cutting and shoe repairs. After a stint in the oil and motor industries, Mark returned full-time to the family business in 1994. Noticing a growing demand for lock and key solutions, he began training as a locksmith with the Master Locksmiths Association and built up his skills through hands on courses and manufacturer training.

Marks passion for vehicles naturally led him into the specialist world of car key programming, earning his place in the Autolocksmiths Association (ALA). Over time, the business evolved beyond keys and locks expanding into full security services including alarms, access control, car park barriers, and their now core offering: door entry systems.

As the scope of work grew, so did the name. Lockfast Security was born to reflect the full range of security solutions offered. A dedicated shop on George Street ran from 2000 until 2018, when demand for mobile and on-site services took priority. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Malcolm officially retired at age 70 although he still keeps an eye on things behind the scenes.

Today, Mark continues to drive the business forward with the same hands-on, customer-first approach thats been at the heart of Lockfast from the very beginning.
